In a powerful collaboration between Gauteng Young Vision and the Thembisa South Police Station Youth Desk, a transformative outreach program unfolded on Wednesday, 09 April 2025, bringing job opportunities and free short courses to the youth and residents of Thembisa South. Hosted on-site at the Thembisa South SAPS premises, the event drew enthusiastic participation from unemployed youth, school leavers, and eager community members determined to shape a brighter future.

The event served as a beacon of hope for those seeking employment and personal development. Representing the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Mr. Jacob addressed the attendees, outlining key employment opportunities available through the IEC. His presentation emphasized civic responsibility, career growth, and the importance of youth involvement in democratic processes.

“Working with the IEC is not just about election day,” said Mr. Jacob. “It’s about becoming a part of the national machinery that upholds democracy. We encourage young people to register for upcoming roles and trainings.”

One of the highlights of the day was the launch of free short course made available to the public by Scelo Nkosi Consultants, a youth development company working in partnership with 1Life and Boston College. The short course include Business Skills, Customer Service, Financial Literacy, and Career Readiness, all carefully curated to equip young people with in-demand knowledge and practical tools to succeed in the modern job market.

“This initiative was created to bridge the gap between education and opportunity. We believe that when young people are equipped with the right skills, their future begins to shift,” said a representative from Scelo Nkosi Consultants.

In addition to job placements and skills development, the event also introduced 2026 business opportunities available to local entrepreneurs. These include opportunities in catering, security services, and stationery supply. Community members interested in these opportunities are encouraged to visit our website and offices to collect vendor registration forms and receive guidance on how to become listed service providers for upcoming projects.

Participants were given the opportunity to register on-site, with facilitators from the Youth Desk assisting them in accessing both job application portals and course enrollment platforms. The seamless support demonstrated the commitment of local leadership to build pathways out of poverty and into purpose.

“This is only the beginning,” shared a representative from the Thembisa South Youth Desk. “We plan to host more outreach programs like this one. Our mission is to provide consistent opportunities for growth, employment, and education.”

A Message to the Youth:

To every young person in Thembisa and beyond—your background does not define your future. Seize every unity, no matter how small. Learn, grow, and believe in the value you bring. The path may be hard, but you are not alone. Your time is coming. Stay hungry for knowledge, and never stop showing up for your dreams. The world is waiting for your brilliance.
