JOHANNESBURG, MIDRAND — The Kamoraleng Heritage Institute is mourning the passing of South African equestrian pioneer Ntate Enos Mosotho Mafokate, affectionately known as Kgosi ya Dipere.

The Institute says it had the rare privilege of documenting and honouring Mafokate’s remarkable life and contribution while he was still alive.
On 21 March 2024, Ntate Mafokate shared his extraordinary journey of resilience during the official launch of the Kamoraleng Legacy Awards at Busy Corner Imbizo Shisanyama.

On 25 May 2024, Africa Day, the Institute honoured him with a Lifetime Achievement Award during the inaugural Kamoraleng Legacy Awards Ceremony held at Shango La Hashu, The Orchards Executive Accommodation, in Glen Austin, Midrand.
His remarkable story as one of South Africa’s pioneering Black showjumpers during the apartheid era remains a powerful lesson in courage, resilience and breaking barriers. His legacy was also captured through the Kamoraleng Podcast documentary.

Founder and CEO of the Institute, Prince Molatelo Develd Monyai, was preparing a research paper titled “Breaking Barriers: Enos Mosotho Mafokate’s Journey of Resilience through Sports and Oral History” at the time of Mafokate’s passing.
The paper will now be presented as a tribute at the OHASA National Conference in Gqeberha from 12 to 16 October 2026.
