Under the leadership and vision associated with Prince Molatelo Develd Monyai, the Kamoraleng Heritage Institute continues to promote the message that African Heritage is Top of the Agenda.

HERITAGE, LEADERSHIP AND THE FUTURE OF YOUTH
The weekend’s activities reflected important conversations around reconnecting South Africans, particularly young people, with their cultural roots and identity.
A Community-Based Intergovernmental Programme on Spiritual and Moral Repatriation of Heroes and a Fundraising Luncheon for Marginalised Youth was held at the Gauteng Provincial Legislature on Saturday morning.
The programme brought together an intergenerational group of leaders and cultural voices, including keynote speaker Hon. Morakane Mosupyoe and Professor Mathole Motshekga, who contributed to discussions surrounding heritage, spirituality, moral values and the future of young people.
Among those in attendance were Dr Baleka Mbete, former Speaker of the National Assembly, Baba Bafana Felix Ngwenya, healer Baba Vusimuzi Ndlovu, and Gogo Phillo Mpondo.
Although the Kamoraleng Heritage Institute did not attend the programme, the discussions addressed issues closely aligned with its broader mission, including reconnecting young South Africans with their roots, promoting healing dialogue and recognising indigenous knowledge as an important resource for community development.

THE TEA MEETING THAT INSPIRED A BIGGER VISION
Behind major movements and partnerships are often simple conversations that develop into something much bigger.
According to the Kamoraleng Heritage Institute, the ideas surrounding the African Heritage Group (AHG) and the concept of “Reimagining Tomorrow” were born from a simple tea meeting and handshake between Prince Monyai and Professor Motshekga.
That meeting became the foundation for a broader vision focused on African heritage, identity, leadership and the future.

TOLKAZI HERITAGE BEER CELEBRATED IN TEMBISA
The focus later shifted from heritage and governance to the heritage economy during an event at Busy Corner Imbizo Shisanyama in Ebony Park, Tembisa.
Patrons were given an opportunity to experience and taste Tolokazi™ Phakama Bakubone, as Apiwe Nxusana-Mawela introduced and promoted brands within the Tolokazi portfolio.
Nxusana-Mawela, recognised as a pioneering Black female brewery owner in South Africa and the founder of Tolokazi Beer, has maintained a growing relationship with the Kamoraleng Heritage Institute.
The occasion demonstrated how indigenous traditions and heritage can also contribute to entrepreneurship, innovation and economic development.

A PARTNERSHIP ROOTED IN HERITAGE
The relationship between Kamoraleng Heritage Institute and Tolokazi began following an important recognition ceremony involving Prince Monyai at the Dumisani Masilela Theatre in Germiston.
After the honorary award ceremony, celebrations continued at the Tolokazi Brewery in Wynberg, Johannesburg, where the relationship between the heritage organisation and the brewery continued to grow.
Tolokazi later became involved in supporting the Kamoraleng Legacy Awards, including sponsoring activities associated with the initiative and hosting heritage-focused celebrations.

A JOURNEY OF CULTURE AND COLLABORATION
The partnership between Kamoraleng and Tolokazi has developed through several significant occasions.
On 21 March 2024, Human Rights Day, the Kamoraleng Legacy Awards were launched at Busy Corner Imbizo Shisanyama, with Apiwe Nxusana-Mawela participating as a guest speaker and sponsor.
On Africa Day, 25 May 2025, Kamoraleng Heritage Institute and Tolokazi celebrated ancient African brewing traditions, highlighting indigenous knowledge and traditional practices as forms of innovation and biotechnology.
The relationship continued on 29 August 2026, when patrons at Imbizo Shisanyama once again had an opportunity to experience the Tolokazi heritage beer offering.

CONGRATULATIONS TO FREEDOM PARK’S NEW CEO
The Kamoraleng Heritage Institute also extended its congratulations to Freedom Park on the appointment of Dr Hilton Fisher as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 September 2026.
The appointment was welcomed as an important development for institutions involved in preserving history, heritage, memory and the cultural identity of South Africans.
