Since March 2025, the Gauteng Young Vision (GYV) NPO, in collaboration with a powerful network of partners, has been leading a life-changing community outreach program at the Winnie Mandela Library in Tembisa. The initiative has brought together both youth and adults with a shared goal: to access opportunity, support, and the tools to change their lives for the better.

The program has been made possible through impactful partnerships with SA Rainbow News Media, Scelo Nkosi Consultants, 1Life, Boston College, the Department of Employment and Labour, Department of Social Development, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), SAPS, and the Winnie Mandela Library, which has played a central role in hosting the sessions.
Skills, Jobs & Financial Literacy in One Hub
One of the most valuable components of the outreach has been led by Scelo Nkosi Consultants, in partnership with 1Life and Boston College, who presented the Truth About Money campaign. This included a free one-day short course that empowered attendees with vital financial literacy, online learning tools, and life skills to help them take control of their personal finances.
Participants were guided through key topics like saving, budgeting, and long-term financial planning—many for the first time. Requirements included a smartphone, earphones, and a valid ID copy, which allowed full access to the program’s online components.

Real Support for Real Job Seekers
The Department of Employment and Labour has been actively involved since the start, assisting job seekers with:
- Database registration
- Filling in Z83 forms
- Career and job readiness support
Their presence ensured that young people left each session more prepared to access and secure employment. Many walked away with their CVs updated, new knowledge gained, and clear direction on where to go next.

IEC Adds Opportunities Beyond the Ballot
Beyond elections, the IEC has engaged with attendees about job openings and small business opportunities connected to electoral events and community democracy initiatives. This has encouraged a new level of economic participation, particularly among youth and first-time voters, who now see the IEC not only as a voting body—but as a gateway to income and empowerment.

March to June 2025: A Journey of Impact
Since its launch in March 2025, the program has been smoothly coordinated and well-attended. Every session, workshop, and opportunity-sharing moment has been thoughtfully executed, thanks to the leadership of GYV and the dedication of its partners.
The consistent delivery of value to Tembisa residents—through job alerts, interviews, skills training, and access to essential services—has helped many take their first steps toward long-term independence.
