Midrand Collaborative Initiative: Uniting Forces Against Gender-Based Violence, Substance Abuse, and Crime

In a concerted effort to combat gender-based violence, substance abuse, and crime, the Midrand Police Station, Foundation for a Drug Free World, Izosukuma Indoda NPO, and the Community Policing Forum recently partnered to raise awareness and distribute educational booklets within the Midrand community. This ongoing collaboration reflects the community’s commitment to addressing pressing social issues.

Concerned by the escalating cases of domestic violence and the pervasive impact of drug-related crime, the Midrand Police have intensified their collaboration with the community to enhance awareness and foster cooperation. Constable Maluleke, the organizer of the event, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, stating, “There is so much positive energy today, and it is incredible. I am inspired to see all of us working together tirelessly to safeguard and restore our community.”

The outreach efforts extended to downtown Midrand, reaching over 700 community members with the ‘Truth About Drugs’ message. The initiative aimed to educate the public about the dangers of substance abuse and its correlation with community crimes.

Local businesses also expressed appreciation for the initiative, with one store stating, “Thank you so much for what you are doing. Drugs are a big problem in our communities, and we are happy to support this great initiative.”

Alice Meiring, representing the Foundation for a Drug Free World, highlighted their international drug awareness campaign that has educated over a billion people globally. She emphasized the importance of dispelling misinformation about drugs and providing accurate information to empower individuals, especially youth, to make informed choices.

The chairman of the local non-profit organization Izosukuma Indoda, dedicated to youth empowerment, actively participated in the awareness event, emphasizing the importance of empowering the youth. Other contributing stakeholders, including the Midrand SAPS and the local Community Policing Forum, were keen on addressing these critical issues.

According to the police, these awareness campaigns are part of a regular occurrence and have received widespread community support. The intention is to continue these campaigns indefinitely to create a lasting impact.
