BOHLOKONG, FREE STATE — The Bohlokong Crime Prevention Youth Desk hosted a historic Junior Commissioners Competition and Elections at the Bohlokong Youth Centre on 24 July 2026, empowering young leaders to become champions of safety, discipline and community service within their schools and communities.

Learners from six schools participated in the competition, including Tiisetsang High School, Thabo Thokoza Senior Secondary School, LK Ntlhabathi Secondary School, Bethlehem Comprehensive School, Bethlehem Combined School and Bodikela Junior Secondary School.

The programme commenced with an opening prayer, followed by a welcoming address from a South African Police Service Community Police Official. Delivering the keynote address, Bohlokong Crime Prevention Youth Desk Chairperson Lekgutsa Mbele described the event as an investment in the future of the community.
“Today is not just another event on the calendar. Today we are building leaders. Today we are planting the seeds of safety, accountability and service in the hearts of our young people.”

Mbele said the initiative is designed to equip Grade 8 to Grade 10 learners with knowledge and practical skills in policing, crime prevention, leadership, discipline and community service.
He reminded learners that crime affects everyone and encouraged them to become positive role models in creating safer schools and neighbourhoods.
“Crime does not only affect adults. It affects our schools, our streets and our homes. If we want safer communities tomorrow, we must raise responsible citizens today. And that responsibility starts with you, our young learners.”

Each participant was given three minutes to deliver a prepared speech before facing a one-minute adjudication session, where judges and fellow learners asked questions to assess their confidence, leadership qualities and critical thinking abilities.

The Junior Commissioners programme focuses on empowering learners to serve as school safety ambassadors, combat bullying, substance abuse and crime, raise awareness on gangsterism and Gender-Based Violence, promote character development, and strengthen partnerships between SAPS, the Department of Basic Education and local communities.

Following a highly competitive process, the following learners were elected to represent Bohlokong:
- Siphokazi Motaung (Tiisetsang High School) – Junior Station Commander
- Molise Kananelo (Bodikela Junior Secondary School) – Junior Vispol Commander
- Lemohang Moloi (Bodikela Junior Secondary School) – Junior Detective Commander
- Tshediso Dlamini (Bethlehem Combined School) – Junior CPO
- Naledi Dlamini (Tiisetsang High School) – Junior CPF
- Lethabo Mohapi (Bethlehem Combined School) – Junior YCPD
Siphokazi Motaung achieved the highest overall adjudication score and will lead the Bohlokong Junior Commissioners team.

The newly elected commissioners will represent Bohlokong Police Station at the District Junior Commissioners Competition and Elections scheduled for 31 July 2026 at Le Reng School Hall in Ladybrand.

Closing the programme, Lekgutsa Mbele encouraged the newly elected leaders to serve with integrity, courage and commitment.
“This competition is not about who is the loudest or the most popular. It is about who has the heart to serve, the courage to stand for what is right, and the vision to help build a safer Bohlokong.”
The Bohlokong Crime Prevention Youth Desk expressed its appreciation to all participating schools, SAPS members, adjudicators, stakeholders and community partners for contributing to the success of the event and for investing in the next generation of community leaders.
