JOHANNESBURG, GAUTENG — The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE), Johannesburg East District and Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign (QLTC) Circuit 3 welcomed a high-level delegation from the Beijing Municipality Education authorities at Ponelopele Oracle Secondary School.
The visit provided an opportunity for education stakeholders from Gauteng and Beijing to strengthen cooperation and explore areas of collaboration aimed at advancing education and creating new opportunities for learners and educators.

A key highlight of the programme was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Gauteng Department of Education and Beijing. The agreement seeks to strengthen cooperation in several areas, including the advancement of education through cultural exchange programmes, innovation and technology to improve teaching and learning, and social cohesion through language.
The partnership reflects an effort to create stronger links between education systems while exposing learners and educators to different cultural experiences, educational approaches and technological developments.

The visiting delegation received a warm welcome from learners at Ponelopele Oracle Secondary School. At the entrance to the school hall, learners mounted a Guard of Honour, demonstrating discipline, pride and respect as they welcomed the distinguished guests.
The ceremony also showcased South Africa’s rich cultural heritage through performances featuring traditional dance, poetry and clan praises, providing the delegation with an opportunity to experience elements of the country’s cultural identity.
