The spirit of economic empowerment and self-reliance continues to grow as stakeholders respond to the urgent needs of young people in local communities. Following the impactful Youth Summit held on 26 February 2026, a clear mandate was given to SABHIBA by the youth of Daveyton and Etwatwa to accelerate initiatives that promote self-employment and sustainable economic opportunities.

In response, a Socio-Economic Service Blitz under the theme “Masithuthukeni Sonke” will take place on 10 June 2026 at Nomathamsanqa Park. This initiative aims to bring together key service providers, financial institutions, and government departments to directly support entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners within the community.

The event will focus on economic development and business formalization, where entrepreneurs will receive hands-on assistance with:

  • Business compliance and registration
  • Tax clearance processes
  • Central Supplier Database (CSD) registration for government opportunities
  • Access to permits and business licensing

Banks and other relevant institutions will also be present to provide financial guidance and support, ensuring that local businesses are equipped with the necessary tools to grow and compete effectively.

The initiative builds on the success of the recently launched Job Centre, which began operations on 3 March 2026. Since its inception, the centre has already made a significant impact:

  • 20 young people have been placed in learnership programmes, each receiving a stipend of R2,000 for six months
  • 20 persons living with disabilities have also secured learnership opportunities, earning R3,000 for six months
  • 5 CVs have already been submitted to potential employers, marking a positive step toward employment

In addition to employment initiatives, various development groups are rolling out specialized training programmes. The Digital and Technology Group is set to begin training on 13 April 2026, offering skills in:

  • CCTV installation
  • Cell phone repairs
  • Robotics

These programmes aim to equip young people with future-ready skills that align with modern technological demands.

Meanwhile, the Arts, Culture, Sports, and Heritage Group continues to nurture creativity and talent within the community. Upcoming programmes will include TV scriptwriting and acting classes, providing a platform for youth to explore opportunities within the creative industry.

This multi-sectoral approach reflects a powerful commitment to achieving economic freedom in our lifetime. By bringing services directly to the people, empowering youth with skills, and supporting local businesses, the initiative stands as a beacon of hope and progress for Daveyton and Etwatwa.

As the community prepares for the upcoming Service Blitz, the message is clear: development is no longer a distant promise—it is happening now.
