When we step into the house of the Lord, one cannot help but notice a striking imbalance — women filling the benches with reverence and consistency, while men and young men are often absent. This absence is not only felt in the worship services but also echoes across our communities. For years, the dominance of female attendance in churches has painted an image that spirituality and dedication to God belong more to women than men. Yet, this was never the design of the Creator.

Elias Sibeko reflects deeply on this concern, speaking not only as a member of the Holy Jerusalem Church of Repentance but as a son of God who witnesses this growing gap. “When men do not gather in the presence of the Lord, they create space for disconnection between themselves and God’s love,” he says. This disconnection carries devastating consequences. Because men are often missing from the fellowship of faith, they easily become the first suspects when wrongdoing, violence, crime, or immorality surface in the community.
The Scriptures remind us in Proverbs 22:6: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Yet, if our sons and fathers are absent from the church, who is guiding them in the way of righteousness? Without grounding in faith, many young men wander into darkness, finding themselves at war with society instead of walking in harmony with God.

Women, by their resilience and spiritual strength, have carried the burden of worship with loyalty. They pray, they intercede, they sing, and they sustain the spiritual heartbeat of the church. But this is not their battle alone. God never designed His church to be built upon one side of creation. Genesis 1:27 declares: “So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.” Both male and female are called to participate in His holy work, and together they complete the reflection of His glory.
When men stay away, stereotypes arise: “Church is for women. Men must prove their strength outside, not inside God’s house.” These lies fuel the idea that masculinity and spirituality cannot coexist. Elias Sibeko warns that these cultural stereotypes blind men from the truth of salvation. Real strength is not measured in worldly dominance but in kneeling before God. The greatest warriors are those who bow to the Lord in prayer and lead their families in holiness.

The absence of men in the church also weakens the spiritual covering of families. God ordained men to lead not in pride but in service and holiness. As Ephesians 5:25 teaches: “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” This love cannot flourish if men remain outside the fellowship of believers. The family unit is strongest when both mother and father, both daughter and son, join hands in worship and walk in the Spirit together.
Elias Sibeko believes that it is only when men and women unite in the house of the Lord that healing flows into homes, communities, and nations. He emphasizes the power of living in God’s Spirit — for in the Spirit, temptation is defeated, sins are washed away, and strength is renewed. A Spirit-filled man is not a suspect in society but a pillar of righteousness.

This imbalance is not irreversible. It begins with an invitation — a call to action. From the Holy Jerusalem Church of Repentance, Ivory Park Branch (Getsemane), Elias Sibeko extends a heartfelt appeal: “To every man, young and old, and to every family — come and join us. Let us worship together. Let us heal from life’s obstacles. Let us live a holy life that shines as a testimony to God’s love.”
Church is not for some, it is for all. The house of the Lord is not a shelter for women only, but a sanctuary where sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, can all find refuge, guidance, and peace. When men rise up and take their rightful place beside women in worship, society will witness transformation.

In conclusion, the dominance of women in the church is not a weakness, but it is a signal. It is a call for balance, a reminder that the Body of Christ cannot be whole without the active participation of both male and female. The presence of women has kept the light of the church burning; now it is time for men to return, not as suspects of wrongdoing, but as vessels of righteousness, leaders of families, and sons of the living God.
As Joshua 24:15 proclaims: “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” May this be the declaration of every man and every family in our community.
