On Friday, 27 June 2025, the streets of Maokeng in Tembisa 1632, Gauteng were filled with laughter, music, and purpose as Mpiloenhle Foundation hosted a vibrant Fun Day to celebrate and empower children before the school holidays.

Held at the foundation’s base of operations at 474 Bornu Street, the event brought together over 100 children for a powerful day of fun, education, and community upliftment.

A Foundation Rooted in Personal Experience

Mpiloenhle Foundation is not just another non-profit organisation—it is a movement rooted in a real story. The founder, deeply affected by her brother’s long-term struggle with drug addiction, started the initiative with the goal of helping substance abuse users. But as the work grew, so did the mission. Today, Mpiloenhle serves families, youth, substance abuse survivors, and underprivileged community members.

From food to clothes, to drug awareness and life-skills education, the foundation is reaching hearts across Tembisa.

Feeding Hope, Fueling Dreams

The organisation runs a feeding scheme every Tuesday and Friday, making sure that children in the area never go without a warm meal. These schoolchildren—who never miss a feeding day—became the inspiration for the Fun Day.

With schools closing, the team decided to celebrate them in the best way they knew how: by creating joy, sharing knowledge, and giving them a day to remember.

A Day of Education and Entertainment

Children engaged in interactive games, dancing competitions, jumping castles, and colorful face painting, while also being empowered through education sessions on gender-based violence (GBV), mental health, and self-confidence. The perfect blend of play and purpose created a safe space for learning, laughter, and love.

One of the leading organisers, Karabo Kgweteane, expressed pride in how the children responded. “Seeing them happy and confident is the reason we continue doing this,” she said.
