In a powerful community initiative, Gauteng Young Vision and the Winnie Mandela Library partnered with the Department of Labour, the Department of Social Development, and SA Rainbow News to host a Career Guidance and Job Readiness Workshop yesterday at the Winnie Mandela Library in Tembisa. The free workshop provided essential career and job readiness training to empower youth in the community.

The workshop, targeting individuals aged 18 and above, focused on equipping participants with practical skills, including how to draft a professional CV, fill out Z83 forms, craft compelling application letters, and prepare for job interviews. In addition to job readiness, participants also gained insights into entrepreneurship and accessing social development resources.

Mpho Matsaneng from Tswelopele, Tembisa, shared her experience, saying, “I heard about the workshop through the community WhatsApp group and wanted to explore what this season holds for us as young people.” She found the session highly beneficial, particularly learning how to draft a CV professionally. “The old way of drafting CVs was emphasized, and I found that approach insightful and timeless,” she added.

Dikeledi highlighted the workshop’s broader impact, saying, “The training helped address unemployment challenges and gave me hope. Learning is a skill, and gaining knowledge is power. For many of us, we didn’t know where to start with job hunting or CV writing, but now we have direction.”

In addition to career readiness programs, Gauteng Young Vision and the Winnie Mandela Library also offer tutorial classes at the library. These classes aim to support students academically, and tutors and students are still invited to join the program. This initiative further demonstrates the organizations’ commitment to empowering the community through education and skills development.
