Gauteng Young Vision, in partnership with SA Rainbow News, is launching a groundbreaking initiative aimed at tackling two of the most pressing issues facing our society: Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and HIV & AIDS. The GBV-HIV & AIDS Top 32 Senior Soccer Tournament, set to take place from 12th October to 12th November 2024, will not only showcase football talent but also serve as a platform for social change.
The event will be held at Mokgoba Soccer Field in Barcelona, Benoni, and is expected to attract local football clubs, businesses, and organizations. Through the sport of soccer, this tournament hopes to encourage a dialogue on the importance of addressing GBV and HIV & AIDS within the community.
GBVAwareness #HIVAIDSEducation
At the core of this initiative lies the belief that sports can be a powerful medium for social impact. The tournament will feature workshops aimed at educating participants on the dangers of GBV and the prevention of HIV & AIDS. These educational sessions will be mandatory for all teams, emphasizing the role of community engagement in addressing such issues.
Elias Sibeko, representing Gauteng Young Vision, emphasizes, “This tournament is more than just about football; it’s about empowering our communities with knowledge and resources to combat GBV and HIV & AIDS. Through these awareness programs, we aim to foster a healthier and more informed society.”
EmpowerCommunities #FootballForChange
Local football clubs are encouraged to participate, not only to compete but also to stand united in the fight against these societal challenges. The involvement of local businesses and organizations will further highlight the community’s commitment to addressing these important topics, ensuring that this tournament leaves a lasting legacy beyond the soccer field.
SupportLocal #TogetherWeCan
This project represents an opportunity for everyone to contribute to changing lives. By engaging the community and raising awareness, the tournament serves as a beacon of hope for those affected by GBV and HIV & AIDS, proving that when we come together, we can make a significant difference.
